Based at General Abelardo L Rodriguez International Airport in Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico, Avolar Airlines is a low-cost air carrier that serves an extensive domestic air network as well as offering flights to international destinations. Generally considered to be the first budget airline to launch in Mexico, Avolar is a relatively new company that began operating flights with one Boeing 737-500 plane on September 16th, 2005. They are still known to be the airline that offered the lowest fare promotion ever seen in the country when it offered $1 US fares on domestic flights. |

Although they were the first budget airline in Mexico, they certainly aren't the only one, and in the last two years many other companies such as Volaris, Click Mexicana and Interjet have been jockeying for their piece of the tortilla. Some of these companies have actually grown more quickly than Avolar.
Today Avolar's fleet consists of five Boeing 737-300s and three Boeing 737-500s, but the company is set to regain its status as the first and best no frills airline in Mexico by expanding its fleet by 20 more Boeings. Until Avolar takes delivery of 20 brand new Boeing 737-800s between 2008-2010, eight older model Boeings will be leased in order to expand its domestic network. The initial international flights will be close to home, flying to California in the US. Once the new aircraft are delivered from Boeing, Avolar will expand its North American destinations to include cities in Arizona and Nevada as well as Chicago, New York, and Canadian destinations as well.
Avolar's presence in the domestic market is competitive, with flights to the following domestic locations: Acapulco, Colima, Cuernavaca, Cuilacan, Durango, Guadalajara, Hermosillo, La Paz, Léon, Morella, Oaxaca, Puebla, Querétaro, Tepic and Uruapan. It uses General Abelardo L Rodriguez International Airport in Tijuana as its travel hub.
