ATA Airlines

ATA is an airline based in the United States and has been in operation for almost thirty-five years. The company was founded by George Mikelsons in Indianapolis, Indiana. The company's air carrier approval did not happen until 1981, however, and their scheduled passenger service was not in operation until 1986.

ATA offers service to popular vacation spots as well as major cities and business hubs. Their scheduled service hub is in Chicago; this opened in 1992 helped solidify the company in the industry and in 1999 ATA announced that it had surpassed $1 billion in annual revenue. It was from Chicago that the airline restructured its routes to include international destinations in 2001.

The fares for an ATA flight are aimed to compete with the lowest in the industry and the company has been quite successful. Millions of passengers use ATA for their travel needs each year. Considering ATA is a low-cost airline, there are many services that make travelling with them more convenient.

Unlike many other budget airlines, with ATA you can take advantage of advance seat booking, which can be done upon check-in or over the internet. Aside from regular check-in, ATA provides self-service kiosks to speed up the process. There is also a frequent flyer program that allows you to accumulate points for flights taken and redeem these later for upgrades or free flights.

Aside from scheduled commercial flights and charters, the airline also serves as a charter for the United States Military by operating missions around the world on a daily basis. There are also code share routes to expand the ATA network that have been made in partnership with other airlines such as Southwest Airlines. These code shares allow ATA flights to connect with other Southwest flights in Oakland, California; Hilo, Hawaii; and Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
