Alaska Airlines

With a base of operations in Seattle, Washington, Alaska Airlines is a major domestic and international airline providing services to major US cities as well as to destinations in Canada and Mexico. The airline's main hub is located at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport with other hubs at Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport, Los Angeles International Airport and Portland International Airport.

The airline evolved from McGee Airways, a small carrier established in the early 1930s which through various expansions, mergers and acquisitions, eventually saw a single unified company under the name Alaska Airlines, which it officially adopted in 1944. A sister company, Horizon Air, was founded in 1981 which was later assimilated into Alaska Airlines along with Jet America Airlines, both of which were acquired by holding company Alaska Air Group.

The airline's network covers an extensive number of domestic cities including both major and smaller destinations. Connections are also maintained with Mexico City, Ixtapa, Cabo San Lucas, Mazatlan, Manazillo and Cancun airports in Mexico and with Calgary, Edmonton, Kamloops and Kelowna in Canada. Honolulu International Airport is also served.

The airline operates a fleet comprised almost exclusively of Boeings aside from a collection of 20 McDonnell Douglas MD-83s. Boeing 737-400s are the most significantly represented models in the fleet with a total of 35, while some 22 Boeing 737-800s and 20 Boeing 737-700s are also present.

Flights with Alaska Airlines provide passengers seated in all classes with complimentary drinks plus snacks or meals depending on the length of the flight. Both soft and alcoholic beverages are available from cabin crew staff plus tea and coffee with meals.

On longer flights, the airline offers the digEplayer portable entertainment centre on which passengers can view movies, popular television shows, dramas and documentaries as well as a large selection of audio material. A small charge is made for rental of the player. On shorter flights, the airline offers its in-flight magazine for passengers' reading pleasure. Flights can be booked directly though the airline's website, via a call centre or through participating travel agents in North America.
