Adam Air

Adam Air was founded by well known businessmen Agung Laksono and Sandra Ang. It is named after Adam Adhitya Suherman, son of Sandra Ang and began its service with 2 Boeing 737 aircraft leased from GE Commercial Aviation Services on 19 December 2003. Despite some controversy surrounding safety and corruption within the airline, Adam Air provides an invaluable service across Indonesia. Adam Air offers flights to over 20 domestic destinations, including Aceh, Jakarta, Padang, Solo and Yagakarta.

Adam Air also offers two international flights from Medan to Penang and Jakarta to Singapore and charter flights within Indonesia. The airline's main base is in Soekarno-Hatta, Jakarta.

Adam Air offers passengers top on-board service, providing meals and drinks included in the cost of the ticket. Check-in counters close 45 minutes before take off. Seats are assigned to passengers but may be requested at check-in. Baggage weight may not exceed 20kg and one piece of hang luggage not exceeding 5kg may be carried onto the aircraft. One novelty feature of Adam Air's service is its 'Fun in the Air' program, which allows passengers to participate in interactive games while travelling.

On January 1 2007 flight 574 lost contact with air controllers and crashed. Up until this incident Adam Air had been the fastest growing airline in Indonesia, awarded 'Low cost carrier airline of the year 2006' at the Asia Pacific and Middle East Aviation Outlook Summit. The crash has had devastating effects on the popularity of the air carrier but they are fighting hard to regain and build their status in the Indonesian aviation world.
